Open Studios West Berkshire and North Hampshire celebrates its 20th Anniversary this year. Like similar schemes up and down the country, it started on a small scale with only 18 artists and today there are approximately 200 artists on the books with around 60 studios opening each year. Opening studios is, however, only the half of it; artists contribute to exhibitions, lend hands on workshops, give demonstrations and talks and link with schools through visual or combined arts residencies.

Central to the scheme is the high quality, fully illustrated Directory of Artists. Published on April 1st, this is free and circulates widely in the region. Read it for travel and opening times but also for the quality of the artists' statements. Use it for creating an open studios trail beginning at New Greenham Arts Centre with INSIGHT 2008, the Open Studios flagship exhibition in which every artist is represented.
